Spinal Surgery

Mr Ishaque will shortly be joining us as our Spinal Surgeon. Mr Ishaque is a full time Consultant Spinal Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Northfields, Birmingham with an interest in degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine. He qualified from Cambridge University in 1991 and completed his general surgical training in London at St Mary’s Hospital gaining the FRCS from both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Edinburgh. He then completed a Doctorate in Medicine at Nottingham University in the Genetics of Disc Degeneration for which he was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association’s Gold Medal in 2005. His work as also been recognised with the award of a Hunterian Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006. He finished his Orthopaedic training in London and was admitted onto the General Medical Council Specialist Register in April 2006. He subsequently undertook Spinal Subspecialty training on the Combined Neurosurgical and Orthopaedic Spinal Program at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital, Canada. He returned to the UK in April 2008 to take up his position at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and The West Midland Hospital. He is also involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate education and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.

Mr Ishaque is married to a GP, has two young boys and is an avid skier.
